Walking Quietly

A self-study on the effects of walking under different hearing conditions

Walking Quietly presents a playful research on the self. By taking the main mode of existence for a person living in times of quarantine - that of the outdoors walk - and experimenting with it, I came to conclusions about the way I and those around me live my life. While it is not going to be possible to ever truly find out what it is like to live under different hearing conditions, this can be simulated and experimented on. The findings of this paper can be best summarised creatively as well, through the poem which can be found down below. Full paper is available on request.

Made for the course Playful & Creative Science.

Let me take you on a walk

Out the door
Do I have my keys?
The door slams shut
Hope I have my keys

Start walking the path
Oh what was the time?
Take a turn left
Check my phone for the time

On past the water
Did I send her that email?
Feet work by themselves
I should check for that email

My gaze starts to drift
What if I didn’t send it?
Subconsciously stepping
I should turn back and send it

-

HONK HONK HONK
Man, why do geese do that?
Look, they’re huddled together
I forgot that geese do that

Back to the walk
Was there always so much sun?
What was I thinking about?
Oh let me first enjoy the sun.
